LONDON (Alliance News) - UK energy market regulator Ofgem on Monday said it has accepted binding commitments from SSE PLC to improve services to competitors connecting to its distribution network.
Ofgem's investigation into whether SSE had impeded competition in the UK electricity market identified concerns in the way the FTSE 100 utility provides services to competitors needed to connect new developments to its electricity distribution network in the south of England.
SSE has now committed to putting in place new processes and procedures to remedy those concerns. First, it will split operations in its connection business to separate the team which provides essential services to the connections market from the team which competes in that same market.
SSE also will install an improved IT system to prevent inconsistent quotes being issued for the same sites without any justification and will provide regular, mandatory competition law compliance training to staff.
"Ofgem considers that these commitments will fully address the competition concerns that have been identified. As a result of accepting the commitments, Ofgem is closing its investigation with no decision made on whether or not SSE infringed competition law," the regulator said.
