(Alliance News) - Ryanair Holdings PLC on Monday recorded sharp traffic growth in June, as it continues to recover from Covid-19 restrictions.
The Dublin-based budget airline said its June passenger numbers surged to 15.9 million from 5.3 million a year earlier. Ryanair's June passenger numbers were its best so far this year, eclipsing May's 15.4 million. The latest figure also topped June 2019's pre-pandemic passenger figure of 14.2 million.
Also, rolling annual passenger numbers to June more than tripled to 134.5 million, from 35.1 million year-on-year.
Ryanair highlighted that its traffic growth was damaged by Covid-19 restrictions between December and January. Notably, load factor hit 79% in January, compared to 96% in June. Further, March traffic was lower than anticipated due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February.
The figures come as airports across the globe are gripped with cancellations and delays. Carriers, which cut jobs in the wake of the Covid pandemic, have struggled to cope with a pick-up in demand as restrictions have eased.
Shares in Ryanair were up 0.7% to EUR11.57 each in Dublin on Monday morning.
