TOP NEWS: Ryanair and Wizz Air see passenger numbers jump in August

2nd Sep 2021 08:45

(Alliance News) - Both Ryanair Holdings PLC and Wizz Air Holdings PLC saw an uptick in passenger numbers in August as the travel sector benefits from Europe's vaccination progress.

Irish budget airline Ryanair on Thursday reported August traffic of 11.1 million at a load factor of 82%, operating over 71,000 flights in the month.

August's stats marked an improvement on July, when it flew 9.3 million passengers at a load factor of 80%. In August 2020, Ryanair saw 7.0 million passengers and registered a load factor of 73%.

Ryanair noted that the EU's Covid certificates have helped to stimulate air travel recovery.

Central and eastern Europe-focused airline Wizz Air, meanwhile, said it carried 3.6 million passengers at a load factor of 83.6% in August. The traffic figure was up 50% on a year ago, while load factor notched a 12.7 percentage point improvement on 2020.

Ryanair shares were trading 0.3% higher in London on Thursday at EUR16.04 each, while Wizz Air stock was up 1.1% at 4,988.00 pence a share.
