LONDON (Alliance News) - Royal Mail PLC said Friday its Chief Executive Moya Greene will retire after more than eight years at the helm of the postal operator.
Greene will step down from the board at the FTSE 100-listed company's annual general meeting in July. Greene - who hails from Newfoundland, Canada - replaced Adam Crozier as CEO of Royal Mail in 2010.
"It has been my pleasure and a great privilege to serve as CEO of this cherished UK institution. I am proud of what we have achieved over the last eight years. It is very pleasing to note that around 20 per cent of this Company is owned by our employees and retail shareholders. Most of all, I am honoured to have worked alongside Royal Mail's people and the union leadership. It is their hard work and dedication that connects households, communities and companies across the UK every day," Greene said.
She will be replaced by Rico Back who will join the board on June 1, following the group's annual results announcement.
Back has been a senior executive at Royal Mail for 18 years and is CEO of its European subsidiary, General Logistics Systems, and has over 30 years experience in the sector. He was a founding member of German Parcel in 1989, which Royal Mail acquired in 1999.
Royal Mail said the Back's selection followed a search lead by Chair Peter Long.
In addition, Sue Whalley was appointed as chief executive officer of the group's post and parcels unit, which consists of all the revenue and operations in the UK, other than Parcelforce Worldwide and Royal Mail International.
Whalley will join the board on June 1 and will play a key role in representing the company in the UK, Royal Mail said.
