TOP NEWS: Royal Mail Chairman Long Moves To Countrywide, Owen Replaces

19th Sep 2018 10:27

LONDON (Alliance News) - Royal Mail PLC on Wednesday said Les Owen will replace Non-Executive Chairman Peter Long, who has moved from non-executive to executive chairman post at estate agency group Countrywide PLC.

Long has served as chairman for three years, the FTSE 100-listed postal services company said. Long has led Royal Mail through a time of major change, it said, including ongoing transformation, industrial relations agreements with the unions and the expansion of the international business.

"It is with a heavy heart that I step down from the Royal Mail board," said Long.

Owen joined Royal Mail in 2010. He chaired the Pensions Committee during the key review of Royal Mail's pension arrangements, the company noted.

"I would like to thank Peter for his strong leadership of the board over the past three years," said Senior Independent Director Orna Ni-Chionna.

"We are fortunate to have an individual of Les Owen's calibre and experience to step into the chairman's role with immediate effect," added Ni-Chionna.

Royal Mail shares were trading 0.2% lower on Wednesday at 484.70 pence each.
