LONDON (Alliance News) - Kier Group PLC on Tuesday said it has been awarded a 15-year contract for repair and maintenance services on part of the Highways England network, with the deal valued at GBP140.0 million over the term of the contract.
The FTSE 250 property, residential, construction and services group said that, under the new Area 13 contract, which commences on April 1, 2017, it will provide routine and cyclic maintenance, defect repair, emergency incident response, traffic management, and severe weather services.
Area 13, on which Kier is currently the incumbent operator, covers Cumbria and north Lancashire, in the north west of England. The contract was signed with government-owned motorway and major A road operator Highways England.
Alongside this, Kier said final negotiations were underway to secure a separate two-year contract to provide maintenance services for Area 6 and Area 8, covering East Anglia and the East of England. This two-year contract would begin on April 1, 2017 as well.
"We are pleased to have secured the Area 13 contract and look forward to the completion of the negotiations around Areas 6 and 8," said Chief Executive Haydn Mursell.
"These awards reflect Kier's ability to tailor its services to Highways England's evolving delivery model, as well as maintain the group's leadership in the growing UK highways management and maintenance market," Mursell added.
