TOP NEWS: IAG Unit Level Europe Ceases Airline Operations

18th Jun 2020 16:46

(Alliance News) - Austria-based budget carrier Level Europe shut down operations on Thursday and will file for insolvency, announced the subsidiary of International Consolidated Airlines Group SA, which includes British Airways and Iberia.

"Level Europe has been impacted by the unprecedented crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic," said the small airline that employed around 200 people in Vienna and 40 in Amsterdam.

Level Europe's six aircraft were already grounded in March as the aviation industry stalled because of pandemic travel restrictions.

The airline started operating from Vienna in 2018 and had engaged in price battles with other low-cost carriers.

It was not immediately clear how many ticket holders are affected by the shutdown.

Besides Level's flights within Europe, IAG also operates long-haul flights under the Level brand, which are not affected by Thursday's step.
