LONDON (Alliance News) - International Consolidated Airlines Group SA on Tuesday reported a rise in passenger traffic and capacity in September compared to the year before, though its load factor slipped.
The FTSE 100-listed airline operator said it carried a total number of 10.0 million passengers in October, which was up 7.9% year-on-year from 9.3 million.
IAG - which owns British Airways, Spanish carriers Iberia and Vueling, and Irish airline Aer Lingus - said group traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometres, rose by 6.6% to 23.8 million from 22.3 million reported in October last year.
Group capacity, measured in available seat kilometres, grew by 6.7% to 28.6 million from 26.8 million the prior year. Load factor fell, however, by 0.1 percentage point to 83.3% from 83.4% a year ago.
All airlines achieved growth in traffic with Iberia being the top performer.
Iberia's traffic was up 10% to 5.4 million from 4.9 million year-on-year. Available seat kilometres was up 11% to 6.3 million from 5.7 million the year before. Load factor declined, however, to 85.7% from 86.1%.
Meanwhile, Aer Lingus's and Vueling's traffic was also up by 9.4% to 2.2 million and by 9.5% to 2.9 million, respectively. Both airlines saw a 0.6 percentage point fall in load factor to 80.7% and 84.2%, respectively.
British Airways' revenue passenger kilometres rose just 2.3% in October to 13.2 million, making it the worst performer during the month, with the load factor at 83.0%, up from 82.4% the year earlier.
Shares in IAG were trading 0.6% lower at 610.636 pence each on Tuesday afternoon.
