TOP NEWS: IAG Passenger Numbers Rise In June, Traffic And Capacity Up

(Alliance News) - International Consolidated Airlines Group SA said Friday its traffic for June increased year-on-year, alongside an expanded capacity and improved load factor.

For June, IAG - which operates British Airways, Iberia, Vueling and Aer Lingus - reported passenger numbers up 6.1% year-on-year to 11.3 million from 10.6 million.

This was driven by growth from its core domestic unit - including UK, Spain, Ireland and Italy - which grew by 7.9%, while in other European markets it carried 4.5% more passengers.

Traffic, which is measured in revenue passenger kilometres increased by 6.3% to 26.53 billion from 25.0 billion the prior year, while capacity, or available seat kilometres rose by 5.2% to 30.05 billion from 28.58 billion.

In addition, the group load factor - which is the number of passengers as a proportion of seats available - increased to 88.3% from 87.4% the year before.

For 2019 to date, reported passenger numbers were up 6.0% to 55.9 million from 52.7 million in 2018. Capacity rose by 5.7% to 163.43 billion kilometres while traffic increased by 6.5% to 135.68 billion.

Shares in IAG were down 1.1% at 452.60 pence on Friday.
