LONDON (Alliance News) - International Consolidated Airlines Group SA on Wednesday reported a rise in passenger traffic and capacity in September compared to the year before, while its load factor slipped.
The FTSE 100-listed airline operator said it carried a total number of 10.6 million passengers in September, which is up 7.1% year-on-year from 9.9 million.
IAG - which owns British Airways, Spanish carriers Iberia and Vueling, and Irish airline Aer Lingus - said group traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometres, rose 5.9% to 24.5 million from 23.1 million reported in September last year.
Group capacity, measured in available seat kilometres, grew by 7.2% to 28.9 million from 27.0 million the prior year. Load factor fell, however, by 1.0 percentage points to 84.6%.
All airlines achieved growth in traffic with Iberia and Aer Lingus being the top performers.
Iberia's traffic was up 11% to 5.5 million from 5.0 million year-on-year. Available seat kilometres was up 12% to 6.4 million from 5.7 million the year before.
Meanwhile, Aer Lingus' traffic was also up by 11% to 2.4 million from 2.1 million a year prior. Aer Lingus was the only airline, which achieved growth in load factor in September of 0.3 percentage points to 84.3%.
British Airways' revenue passenger kilometres rose just 1.4% in September to 13.1 million, making it the worst performer during the month, with the load factor at 83.3%, down from 84.5% the year earlier.
Shares in IAG were trading 0.2% higher at 635.20 pence each on Wednesday afternoon.
