TOP NEWS: Glencore to appoint Nagle as chief executive on July 1

23rd Mar 2021 08:43

(Alliance News) - Glencore PLC on Tuesday confirmed that Gary Nagle's appointment as chief executive officer will become effective on July 1.

He will be replacing Ivan Glasenberg, who will be retiring from his role at the Baar, Switzerland-based commodities miner on June 30 after 19 years with the company.

Nagle is currently the global head of Glencore's coal industrial business based in Sydney, Australia.

He joined Glencore in 2000 in Switzerland as part of the coal business development team, before working until 2013 in Colombia as chief executive officer of Prodeco, Glencore's Colombian coal operation. Nagle then moved to South Africa to take on the role of head of Glencore's Alloys Assets until 2018.

Earlier in March, it was announced that Glencore's Chair Anthony Hayward would step down from his role with effect at the group's 2022 annual general meeting.

In addition, Non-Executive Director John Mack will step down from his role with effect at the annual general meeting on April 29, after eight years since 2013.

Shares in Glencore were down 0.8% at 277.30 pence on Tuesday in London, while its Johannesburg shares were 2.1% lower at ZAR56.88.
