LONDON (Alliance News) - Diageo PLC on Wednesday said it has appointed Javier Ferran as chairman effective from January 1, 2017, following the retirement of Franz Humer.
Ferran will join the board as a non-executive director on July 22, 2016.
Ferran is currently a partner at private equity firm Lion Capital, prior to which he was president and chief executive at rum-maker Bacardi.
He is also currently a non-executive director at drinks giant SABMiller PLC and at British Sugar and Primark owner Associated British Foods PLC, although he will not seek re-election to SABMiller's board at its annual general meeting in July prior to its takeover by AB InBev.
"I am very pleased to welcome Javier to the Diageo board. He brings a wealth of experience to the role of chairman," Chief Executive Ivan Menezes said in a statement.
Shares in Diageo were trading down 0.7% at 1,843.00 pence on Wednesday afternoon.
