TOP NEWS: Debenhams Appoints Amazon's Sergio Bucher As New CEO

26th May 2016 06:20

LONDON (Alliance News) - Debenhams PLC on Thursday said it has appointed Sergio Bucher as chief executive, replacing Michael Sharp who resigned last year.

Bucher will join the department store operator in October from Amazon.com Inc where he has served as vice president of Amazon Fashion Europe since 2013. Prior to this, he was general manager of retail and e-commerce worldwide at sportswear company Puma, and before that held retail roles at sportswear maker Nike and owner of the Zara fashion chain Inditex.

Sharp will step down from the board on June 24.

"Following a rigorous recruitment process with some exceptional quality candidates, Sergio's wealth of e-commerce expertise, international experience and clear leadership qualities stood out. I am confident we have the best possible person to realise the potential of 'new Debenhams' as a leading international multi-channel retailer with a bright future," Chairman Ian Cheshire said in a statement.
