(Alliance News) - Carnival PLC on Wednesday said operations in German business AIDA Cruises and Italian unit Costa will remain on pause until the end of July.
Shares in Carnival were up 15% at 1,278.00 pence in London in afternoon trading.
Anglo-American cruise operator Carnival's AIDA said it has considered "the imminent re-openings of the European tourist traffic" but noted that "regulations for international tourism are still being adjusted" with conditions for a restart still not clear.
"In order to give guests the necessary planning security for their vacation, AIDA unfortunately has to extend the temporary break of the AIDA travel season until the end of July 2020," the company said.
AIDA has pledged to "reimburse all guests whose cruises have been cancelled for the payments previously made to AIDA in the form of a travel credit" and is offering a 10% bonus on top of payments made which can be used until the end of 2021.
Meanwhile, the decision to keep Costa's operations on pause was based around "the uncertainty of a gradual reopening of ports to cruise ships" as well as the possibility of restrictions remaining in place amid the pandemic.
"Costa is taking steps to inform both travel agents and guests affected by the changes. They will be guaranteed a re-protection in accordance with the applicable legislation, which offers the greatest guarantee in this contingency situation," said Costa.
