TOP NEWS: Babcock Hires Former Shell Executive As Chair Designate

3rd Apr 2019 07:46

LONDON (Alliance News) - Babcock International Group PLC said Wednesday it has hired former Royal Dutch Shell PLC executive Ruth Cairnie as chair-designate of the FTSE 250-listed engineering services firm.

Cairnie will replace current Chair Mike Turner after the firm's annual general meeting on July 18. She has been appointed, however, as non-executive director with immediate effect.

Babcock said that Cairnie has "extensive" engineering experience. Previous senior executive roles have included as group strategy & planning executive vice president at FTSE 100-listed oil & gas giant Shell.

Cairnie currently serves as non-executive director at Primark-owner Associated British Foods PLC, engine maker Rolls-Royce Holdings and power generation firm ContourGlobal PLC.

Turner - who has served as chair for 11 years - explained the appointment of Cairnie followed a "thorough process" and that the firm was "delighted" to welcome Cairnie.

"She is a strategic thinker and strong leader, and we look forward to her bringing her in-depth experience, gained from a broad range of executive and non-executive roles at leading industrial companies, both in the UK and internationally, to benefit Babcock," Turner added.
