LONDON (Alliance News) - Top Level Domain Holdings Ltd Friday said it now has an interest in 25 uncontested top level internet domains after the domain name regulator ruled in favour of objections the International Rugby Board had lodged against two competing applications.
The company, which is about to change its name to Minds + Machines Ltd, is buying up domain names ahead of changes to rules governing domain names that will allow far more names than has been allowed up to now. The domain name regulator ICANN has only allowed a relatively small number of domains until now, such as .com, .org and .gov.
Top Level Domain is partnering the International Rugby Board and Roar Domains in a joint venture for .RUGBY.
"We applaud the ICC's decision. The IRB is the world governing and law making body for the sport of Rugby Union and next year the IRB's Rugby World Cup is expected to be broadcast to a global audience in excess of 4 billion. We now very much look forward to a smooth contracting and delegation process and likewise to establishing .RUGBY as the domain of choice for all those who are passionate about the sport whether at the playing, spectator or commercial levels," Top Level Domain Chief Executive Antony Van Couvering said in a statement.
The competing applications for the new .RUGBY domain name had come from dot Rugby Limited and Atomic Cross LLC.
Top Level Domain shares were up 4.6% at 14.65 pence early Friday.
