LONDON (Alliance News) - Top Level Domain Holdings Ltd said Tuesday that it had exchanged contracts with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers on seventeen of the 24 uncontested domain name applications it has an interest in.
A top level domain name is the suffix of an internet address such as .com or .net which are designated to approved organisations by ICANN.
Top Level has so far inked contracts for .FISHING, .CASA, .BUDAPEST, .VODKA, .RODEO, .WORK, .MIAMI, .COOKING, .HORSE, .LUXE, .NRW, .COUNTRY, .BAYERN, .BEER, and .SURF. Five of these domains have already passed pre-delegation testing, which is used to ensure that applicants have the capacity to operate the domain name under certain technical and operational criteria.
Top Level expects to participate in upcoming private auctions for 43 contested domain names it has an interest in.
The company is buying up domain names ahead of changes to rules governing domain names that will allow far more names than has been allowed up to now. ICANN has only allowed a relatively small number of domains until now, like .com, .org and .gov.
Shares in Top Level were trading down 0.4%, or 0.06 pence, at 14.94 pence Tuesday morning.
