"Too Soon" To Say If Vodafone Will Move Headquarters After Brexit Vote

24th Jun 2016 14:26

LONDON (Alliance News) - Vodafone Group PLC on Friday said it was "too soon" for it to know whether or not the UK's vote to leave the European Union will mean it will have to relocate its headquarters.

Vodafone is based in Newbury, Berkshire, west of London, and employs more than 13,000 people across the UK, meaning moving would be a blow to the UK's economy.

"The political and economic consequences of the UK's withdrawal from the EU are for others to consider now that the UK electorate has reached its decision. In terms of the implications for Vodafone, each of our country businesses operates as a standalone entity able to adapt to a wide range of local conditions," said Vodafone in an emailed statement.

"As we said before the referendum, we remain committed to supporting our UK customers regardless as to the outcome, now and in the future. It is too soon to form a view on the implications of the referendum outcome for the domicile of the group," Vodafone added in the statement.

Vodafone Chief Executive Vittorio Colao had been an outspoken supporter of the campaign for the UK to remain in the EU.

Shares in Vodafone were flat at 217.90 pence Friday afternoon, having fallen to 203.30p at the open before recovering all their losses on the day.
