Tlou Energy Secures Botswana Environmental Approval For Lesedi Project

1st May 2019 11:59

LONDON (Alliance News) - Tlou Energy Ltd said Wednesday the Botswana government has approved the environmental impact statement for the downstream element of the Lesedi power project in the country.

Shares in Tlou were 6.6% higher at 7.25 pence on Wednesday.

The Department of Environmental Affairs in Botswana approved the statement for the project which will see an up to 20 megawatt coal bed methane power generation, a transmission line to Serowe and an up to 20 megawatt solar farm constructed at Lesedi.

The approval for the environment impact statement is valid for 30 years and provides Tlou with the option to "rapidly" expand the project to 20 megawatts.

Tlou already has environmental approval for the upstream element of the project.

"We welcome another milestone which further de-risks the Lesedi Project," Tlou Managing Director Tony Gilby said.

"The granting of the downstream EIS is great news for the company as it gives the final environmental authorisation for the initial proposed development of up to 10 megawatts of power generation and allows for a further 10 megawatts of CBM power generation," Gilby added. "This gives the company the option to rapidly expand to 20 megawatts."
