LONDON (Alliance News) - Thor Mining PLC Wednesday said testwork at its 51% owned Spring Hill in Australia has returned outstanding gold recovery, reinforcing assay upgrades.
The Australian tungsten and gold explorer and developer said metallurgical testwork carried out by Nagrom Mineral Processors to assess potential gold recovery outcomes from gravity processing, followed by continuous vat leaching, found 70.6% gravity recovery from the Hong Kong zone and 59.8% gravity recovery from the Main Zone at the site.
The company also said it achieved 98.3% gold recovery from combined gravity and continuous vat leaching of the Main Zones ore, which led to a 29% upgrade from assay of a single sub-sample to 5.31 grams per tonne from 4.11 grams per tonne and a 21% upgrade to a recovered gold and tails assay to 6.45 grams per tonne from 5.31 grams per tonne.
Thor Mining said this gravity and CVL test work demonstrates the potential to achieve high gold recoveries from the Spring Hill ore without the major capital and operating cost burden of a conventional process plant.
The news comes after the company announced in January that screen fire assay tests Spring Hill project have achieved up to a 107% increase in gold grades for certain sized samples at the site.
Screen fire assays study large pulverised samples which have been passed through a fine screen that are generally identified to contain coarse gold.
Thor Mining shares were trading down 3.6% to 0.231 pence Wednesday.
