LONDON (Alliance News) - A third person has been arrested in relation to alleged data theft from TalkTalk Telecom Group PLC, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement Saturday.
A 20-year-old from Staffordshire was arrested on suspicion of Computer Misuse Act offences.
A search of the address remains ongoing, the Met said. Metropolitan Police Cyber Crime Unit (MPCCU) and officers from the National Crime Agency are continuing enquiries related to the data breach.
This was the third in a string of arrests related to the alleged data theft, following the arrest of a 16-year-old boy from Feltham, west London, and a 15-year-old from County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
On Friday TalkTalk confirmed that the cyber attack which hit its website last week was smaller than initially anticipated, saying that less than 21,000 unique bank account numbers and sort codes had been compromised, along with less than 28,000 obscured credit and debit card details.
In addition to the bank account details accessed, TalkTalk said fewer than 15,000 customer dates of birth had been breached, plus fewer than than 1.2 million customer email addresses, names and phone numbers.
Though the scale of the attack was smaller than initially though, TalkTalk urged its customers to be vigilant and to take precautions to protect themselves against possible scam phone calls and emails.
