LONDON (Alliance News) - Tekcapital PLC said Monday it has acquired a US patent for low-sodium salt compositions, in order to seek, with industry partners, to commercialise the technology.
Tekcapital said over the next few weeks it will be conducting a taste test of this new product for an undisclosed global food company.
The technology has the potential to act a replacement for regular salt for a number of applications, including dry snacks such as chips and crisps.
The US Food and Drug Administration recently set out guidelines to reduce sodium consumption by over 30% in the next ten years.
"We are excited to have acquired the patent to this novel technology aimed at reducing salt intake in snack foods consumers enjoy without sacrificing the salty taste," said Executive Chairman Clifford Gross in a statement.
Shares in Tekcapital were up 1.9% at 45.87 pence Monday morning.
