LONDON (Alliance News) - Tekcapital PLC said Monday it has acquired from Arizona State University an exclusive license to a patent application for the measurement of glucose in saliva.
The company said this adds to its portfolio of patents for the non-invasive measurement of glucose. The patent covers a safe, fast, non-invasive method and a biosensor device to collect and sample glucose in the saliva of both humans and pets. Tekcapital said it believes this technology, if successful, could replace the need for invasive blood tests repeatedly taken by diabetics.
"This is a step forward in non-invasive, glucose measurement. If commercialised successfully, this new technology could encourage patients and pet owners to measure blood sugar levels more frequently and without discomfort," said Executive Chairman Clifford Gross in a statement.
Shares in Tekcapital were up 5.4% to 47.95 pence Monday morning.
