Technology Minerals' Recyclus reopens Wolverhampton plant after fire

2nd Oct 2024 14:13

(Alliance News) - Technology Minerals PLC on Wednesday said Recyclus Group Ltd will reopen its LiBatt plant in Wolverhampton today following a fire early this morning.

Technology Minerals is a company working to establish a circular economy for battery metals based in London. It holds a 48.35% stake in battery recycling business, Recyclus.

The fire broke out at 0008 BST in a goods inward building, used to store batteries prior to processing.

Technology Minerals said fire engines arrived promptly, and the fire was quickly contained within one of seven bays in the building.

The company noted that no one was hurt, and there was no damage to the other six bays or surrounding buildings.

The burnt material will be processed through Recyclus' system so that no materials are wasted or sent to landfill.

Earlier this month, Technology Minerals announced that Recyclus had completed a ten-week programme to recycle 4,000 end-of-life lithium-ion battery modules sourced from electric vehicles.

The programme was carried out alongside a leading engineering services and technology company.

Chair of Technology Minerals & Director & Co-Founder of Recyclus Robin Brundle said: "We are proud to help tackle the increasing volumes of end-of-life Li-ion batteries that have emerged in the transition to electrification. Successfully delivering this project to recycle 4,000 Li-ion battery modules from a major player in this field is a testament to our ability to become the go-to provider to store, transport and recycle Li-ion batteries on an industrial scale."

Technology Minerals shares were down 6.8% to 0.12 pence each in London on Wednesday afternoon.
