Taylor Wimpey Chair To Leave, Former HSBC Managing Director Replaces

3rd Jul 2019 09:39

(Alliance News) - Taylor Wimpey PLC on Wednesday said Irene Dorner will succeed outgoing non-executive chair Kevin Beeston, who will leave at the end of February next year.

Dorner will join the FTSE 100-listed housebuilder in December as chair-designate and as an independent non-executive director. She will work closely with Beeston during a handover period and it is anticipated that she will assume the role of chair following the announcement of the company's full-year results on February 26, 2020.

Dorner had a long and distinguished career, Taylor Wimpey said, largely at HSBC Holdings PLC, where until the end of 2014, she held a number of senior positions. Her roles included running HSBC's Malaysian operations, becoming chief executive & president of HSBC in the US and also being appointed as group managing director.

Beeston was appointed as chair of the Taylor Wimpey board in July 2010. In March, noting the change in the UK Governance Code with regard to the tenure of chairs, the company confirmed that it had commenced a search for a new chair.

"After what will be a little over nine years it's the right time for me to step down with the business in great shape and with a clear strategy, strong leadership team and sound platform in place to continue to take Taylor Wimpey forward," said Beeston.

Taylor Wimpey shares were trading 1.0% higher on Wednesday morning in London at 161.70 pence each.
