TalkTalk Telecom To Scrap Separate Line Rental Charges

3rd May 2016 13:28

LONDON (Alliance News) - TalkTalk Telecom Group PLC Tuesday said that it will no longer be splitting out line rental charges, and will instead provide a combined monthly price for broadband packages.

TalkTalk highlighted a "fiercely competitive broadband market" which "has been increasingly characterised by attention-grabbing broadband prices, underpinned by less prominent ? and more costly ? landline charges."

As providers are able to present landline and broadband charges separately, this can lead to broadband deals "appearing misleadingly cheap."

TalkTalk said it would be the first major broadband provider to end the practice of separate pricing, moving forward instead with a single monthly cost including line rental to come into effect in autumn.

"We want to make things simpler and fairer for customers. People deserve to know they are getting value for money and, as the value for money provider, TalkTalk is going to fight hard to ensure customers get the transparency they deserve. But TalkTalk can't do this alone. Until other providers follow our lead, households across the UK risk being misled by seemingly good deals that all too often mask extra charges," said Consumer Managing Director Tristia Harrison in a statement.

Shares in TalkTalk were up 1.0% at 264.80 pence Tuesday afternoon.
