Takeaway.com Clarifies CEO Jitse Groen's Comments On Just Eat Offer

13th Nov 2019 17:48

(Alliance News) - Takeaway.com NV said on Wednesday its Chief Executive Jitse Groen in an article published by Reuters news agency did not state that company's offer for Just Eat PLC will not be changed.

The company also clarified that Groen did not indicate levels of shareholder support for it.

Takeaway.com on Monday reiterated its support for its proposed all-share merger between with fellow food ordering platform Just Eat, following the rebuffed offer for Just Eat from Amsterdam- and Johannesburg-listed Prosus NV.

Earlier Monday, Prosus posted its offer document to shareholders in Just Eat, setting the first closing date for the GBP4.9 billion offer at December 11.

Prosus first made the offer in October, which was rejected by Just Eat.

Just Eat said Monday it continued to believe that the Prosus offer "significantly undervalues" the company on both a standalone basis and as part of the proposed merger with Takeaway.com.

As a result, Just Eat once again recommended that shareholders reject the offer by Prosus.

Just Eat shares closed 0.6% higher in London at 739.40 pence each on Wednesday. Prosus shares closed 2.4% lower in Amsterdam at EUR60.73 and 2.4% lower at ZAR99,400.00 in Johannesburg.
