LONDON (Alliance News) - SyQic PLC said Tuesday it has inked a deal with Singapore-based streaming website Viki Inc to make its television shows and films available to SyQic customers, and said it is re-branding its recently acquired Maaduu service as 'cool2vu.'
Viki hosts a large portfolio of international content which is translated into over 200 languages by a fan community, and was bought by Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten Inc in 2013.
Under the deal this content will be provided to SyQic free until a point where it becomes part of a paid for subscription service, at which point a revenue sharing arrangement will be introduced.
SyQic acquired Korean content streaming service Maaduu last August. It has decided to rebrand the service to "derive more international acceptance" of the service. Through its deal with Viki it expects to be able to make cool2vu available to users in Europe, South America, the Middle East and Africa quickly. It had previously been limited to Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Shares in SyQic are trading up 9.9% at 56.05 pence Tuesday morning.
