STV Applies For Three Local Television Licences In Scotland

24th Oct 2014 07:11

LONDON (Alliance News) - STV Group PLC said Friday that it is bidding for three local television licences in Aberdeen, Ayr and Dundee to deliver local news and current affairs content, in partnership with a group of colleges.

The applications have been submitted in partnership with Robert Gordon University and North East Scotland College in Aberdeen, the University of the West of Scotland in Ayr and the Abertray University and Dundee and Angus College in Dundee. It will work in partnership with the colleges and universities to provide media students with an opportunity to learn and train in a live TV environment, it said.

If the applications are successful, these education partners will also be represented on the boards of each service.

STV launched a local TV station in Glasgow with Glasgow Caledonian University in June, and will launch a second, STV Edinburgh, with Edinburgh Napier University in January next year.

"We have demonstrated our ability to engage with local communities and deliver relevant, local content across STV's multi-platforms, including the current STV Glasgow licence and our Apps serving Scotland's largest cities," said STV's Director of Channels Bobby Hain in a statement.

STV shares were up 1.6% at 334.75 pence early Friday.
