Staley Sticks With Amer Sajed As CEO Of Barclaycard Payments Unit

20th Apr 2016 09:57

LONDON (Alliance News) - Barclays PLC on Wednesday said Amer Sajed will remain as the chief executive officer of Barclaycard, its payments and cards business, naming him the permanent successor to Val Keating.

Sajed, who joined the bank from Citigroup in 2006, was put in charge of Barclaycard on an interim basis after Keating stepped down in May 2015.

"Since joining Barclays in December of last year I've been impressed by Amer's deep understanding of the global payments landscape. Barclaycard enjoyed its most successful year in 2015 and I am confident that under Amer's leadership the business will continue to go from strength to strength," Jes Staley, chief executive officer of Barclays, said in a statement.

Last month, Barclays named Brian Cole, the former chief executive of US-based Capital One Financial Corp's UK credit cards business, as the new chief executive officer of Barclaycard UK, reporting to Sajed and to Ashok Vaswani, the chief executive officer of Barclay's ring-fenced UK bank, which houses the consumer credit card business and retail banking operations in the country.

Shares in Barclays were up 0.2% at 168.10 pence on Wednesday.
