SSE's Fiddler's Ferry Signs Contract With National Grid

30th Mar 2016 16:17

LONDON (Alliance News) - SSE PLC on Wednesday said its power station at Fiddler's Ferry in Cheshire secured a contract to provide ancillary services to National Grid.

The contract is for one year and starts on April 1. One unit at the station will provide supplemental balancing reserve services to National Grid for winter 2016-17.

SSE added that it will enter all or part of Fiddler's Ferry capacity into any 2017/18 capacity market auction.

"Challenging economic and environmental conditions for coal as the UK cleans its electricity mix mean that the longer term future of the site remains uncertain but we are very pleased to have secured this 12-month contract. We will continue our consultation with employees as we complete our review of the operational requirements of the station," Managing Director of wholesale Martin Pibworth said in a statement.
