(Alliance News) - SSE PLC on Monday said that, together with partners Marubeni Corp and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, its has been successful in a ScotWind auction.
The Perth, Scotland-based energy utility said that the auction was for new offshore wind leases in Scotland. The partnership has been awarded the rights for 858 square kilometres of seabed in the E1 area off the east coast of Scotland to develop a wind project of up to 2.6 gigawatt of capacity.
SSE owns a 40% share of the development rights with Tokyo-based conglomerate Marubeni and Danish fund manager Copenhagen Infrastructure owning 30% each.
SSE noted it also is building the Seagreen wind farm offshore Scotand and developing the 4.1 gigawatt Berwick Bank offshore wind farm, which is expected to be completed by the end of the decade. The new E1 project will use floating wind technology, due to the depth of the water.
The ScotWind project brings SSE's secured pipeline to around 11 gigawatt with further opportunities in development to grow this to its 15 gigawatt target.
Shares in SSE were up 0.6% at 1,586.63 pence on Monday morning in London.
