Spire Healthcare To Shut St Saviour's Hospital In Kent

2nd Jun 2015 12:17

LONDON (Alliance News) - FTSE 250-listed private healthcare provider Spire Healthcare Group PLC Tuesday said it has proposed the closure of the St Saviour's Hospital in Kent.

Spire said a period of consultation will now start with all employees at the hospital. It said the closure will not have any impact on its guidance for 2015.

"We recognise that Spire St Saviour's' team provide excellent patient care to the very highest standards. Spire Healthcare's strategy is to operate modern, high-quality facilities and to invest in delivering higher acuity services. After a thorough assessment the Spire Healthcare board has proposed the closure of the hospital, given the investment in infrastructure needed to bring Spire St Saviour's in line with our other hospitals," said Spire Chief Executive Rob Roger.

"This proposal has not been put forward lightly and we will work closely with our patients to ensure continuity of care at alternative locations. A full consultation process will also take place for all employees," Roger added.

Share in Spire were down 0.8% to 357.3 pence on Tuesday.
