(Alliance News) - Spire Healthcare Group PLC said on Monday it has reached a new agreement to support the UK National Health Service during the Covid-19 pandemic as Omicron uncertainties continue.
The London-based private health care provider said that the final details of a new contract have yet to be agreed but that it expects it will operate on similar terms to the contract in place during January to March last year.
Under the agreement, Spire Healthcare, together with other independent providers, will help to relieve pressure on NHS hospitals in England by treating NHS elective patients and providing urgent cancer work.
Spire Healthcare said the agreement will allow it to continue to treat private patients whilst also supporting the NHS.
If required, Spire Healthcare said it will grant NHS England access to 100% of its facilities and teams on a local, regional or national basis in the event of a surge of Covid-19 patients in NHS hospitals. The company explained that if a Spire Healthcare hospital is in surge it will receive 100% cost recovery for its services.
Spire Healthcare said work under the agreement will expire on March 31.
Shares in Spire Healthcare were up 0.8% at 252.50 pence on Monday morning in London.
