Sphere Medical Says Latest Proxima System Tests Positive

25th Oct 2013 08:43

LONDON (Alliance News) - Sphere Medical Holding PLC Friday said it had successfully completed an extensive Proxima system usability study at a hospital in Birmingham and will use the results to bolster its attempt to get European marketing approval for the treatment.

Results from the study, the largest undertaken to date by Sphere Medical and conducted by an independent third party, found that all of the usability targets for the Proxima system were met and that of the 50 participants that rated the system, 42 said it was either "Very Easy" or "Easy" to use while 8 were "Neutral" on ease of use.

The Proxima system is an arterial blood analyser for use in hospital intensive care units and operating rooms. When a reading is required, blood is withdrawn from the patient into the device and a panel of analytes is measured to what the company claims is "laboratory analyser accuracy". All blood is returned into the patient after the measurement.

Sphere Medical shares were up 0.8% at 31.25 pence Friday morning.
