LONDON (Alliance News) - Irish drinks company C&C Group PLC said Wednesday Anthony Smurfit, one of the company's non-executive directors and the chief executive officer of packaging supplier Smurfit Kappa Group, will retire from its board, effective from Wednesday.
C&C said Smurfit has served on its board of directors and on the audit committee since April 2012. Smurfit was appointed group chief executive officer of Smurfit Kappa Group in September 2015, having been at the packaging company for more than 20 years.
"On behalf of the board, we would like to thank Tony for his service to C&C Group over the past four years. Tony has made a significant contribution to the board but his decision to step down is understandable given his singular focus on his new role as chief executive officer of Smurfit Kappa Group," Brian Stewart, chairman of C&C, said in a statement.
Shares in C&C were up 0.5% at EUR3.91 on Wednesday afternoon.
