LONDON (Alliance News) - Smart Metering Systems PLC on Tuesday said it has signed a framework agreement with independent UK-based energy supplier First Utility Ltd.
Smart Metering Systems, which connects, owns, operates and maintains smart meters in the UK, said it has been named First Utility's preferred domestic smart meter provider.
Under the terms of the deal, Smart Metering Systems will provide domestic smart meters to First Utility customers as part of a UK government programme requiring domestic energy supliers to provide all customers with in-home smart meters by 2020.
Over the next 18 months, Smart Metering Systems will get ownership of up to 150,000 domestic dual fuel smart meters under the deal. No financial details on the agreement were disclosed.
"We are delighted to be working with First Utility, the largest independent energy supplier in the UK in the roll-out of their smart meter programme between now and the end of 2020. SMS is well positioned for this new market with a strong track record for customer services and asset ownership and management," said Smart Metering Systems Chief Executive Alan Foy.
