SMALL-CAP WINNERS & LOSERS: Costain climbs; Petra returns some gains

27th Jan 2025 09:55

(Alliance News) - The following stocks are the leading risers and fallers among London Main Market small-caps on Monday.

----------

SMALL-CAP - WINNERS

----------

Costain Group PLC, up 7.8% at 92.67 pence, 12-month range 61.00p-113.00p. The construction and engineering firm expects annual profit in line with market expectations. The firm says it finished 2024 "strongly", hailing pact awards in the water and rail sectors. Its "high-quality forward work position" stood at GBP5.4 billion at the conclusion of last year, up from GBP3.9 billion 12 months prior. "This, together with growth on existing frameworks and attractive levels of bidding activity, gives the group increasing confidence in its ability to deliver further growth in operating profits and margins," Costain adds. It puts market expectations for 2024 adjusted operating profit between GBP41.9 million and GBP43.3 million. At best, this would represent an 8.0% rise from GBP40.1 million in 2023.

----------

SMALL-CAP - LOSERS

----------

India Capital Growth Fund Ltd, down 4.4% at 165.00p, 12-month range 143.00p-199.00p. Shares are down 14% so far in 2025, tracking a tricky start to the year for Indian equities. The Nifty 50 index of Indian large-caps has lost some 3% so far in 2025. Shortly before the market close in Mumbai, it was down 1.1%. Transmission and distribution structure firm Skipper Ltd, one India Capital Growth's largest holdings, is down 5.6%.

----------

Petra Diamonds Ltd, down 1.4% at 29.10p, 12-month range 24.50p-56.70p. Shares surrender some recent gains. The South Africa and Tanzania-focused diamond miner had risen for four successive days, adding some 13% during that winning run.
