SMALL-CAP WINNERS & LOSERS: Pub sector falls to Indian variant worries

28th May 2021 10:51

(Alliance News) - The following stocks are the leading risers and fallers among London Main Market small-caps on Friday.

----------

SMALL-CAP - WINNERS

----------

Capital & Regional PLC, up 3.9% at 86.62 pence, 12-month range 32.30p-135.00p. The property firm's shares staged a comeback after they fell 3.3% on Wednesday and 2.0% on Thursday in a poor read-across from peer British Land Co. On Wednesday, British Land posted a steep fall in portfolio value during a virus-hit financial year. About 28% of British Land's portfolio is in the retail sector, Capital & Regional's assets largely consist of shopping centres.

----------

SMALL-CAP - LOSERS

----------

Fuller, Smith & Turner PLC, down 2.7% at 860.00p, 12-month range 486.00p-977.73p. Concerns over the Indian Covid-19 variant's spread in the UK has hurt the pub sector. Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned that freedom from restrictions on June 21 may have to wait as it emerged three-quarters of new cases are now the Indian mutation. Among mid-cap pub chains, Mitchells & Butlers PLC fell 3.2% and JD Wetherspoon was down 2.1%.

----------

Hostelworld Group PLC, down 3.7% at 97.10p, 12-month range 38.80p-114.14p. The online hostel booking platform's shares similarly succumbed to Covid-19 variant concerns. Nations such as France and Germany have tightened restrictions on UK arrivals.
