SMALL-CAP WINNERS & LOSERS: Porvair Sinks As Annual Earnings Fall

1st Feb 2021 11:24

(Alliance News) - The following stocks are the leading risers and fallers among London Main Market small-caps on Monday.

----------

SMALL-CAP - WINNERS

----------

BATM Advanced Communications, up 7.1% at 108.68 pence, 12-month range 30p-150.50p. The laboratory diagnostic equipment distributor said it entered the second half of 2020 with a substantially higher backlog than at the same point in the prior year. This momentum has continued through the second half, with stronger-than-anticipated demand for its diagnostics solutions towards, it added.

----------

SMALL-CAP - LOSERS

----------

Porvair, down 9.0% at 504.16p, 12-month range 370p-796.47p. The filtration, laboratory and environmental technology said near-term trading remains unpredictable and continues to withhold earnings guidance. For year ended November 30, revenue falls 6.8% to GBP135.0 million from GBP144.9 million year before. Pretax profit down 17% to GBP11.6 million from GBP14.0 million. Chief Executive Officer Ben Stocks said: "We entered 2021 with a strong balance sheet and a lower cost base than a year ago, which will be helpful while we wait for vaccinations to bring the pandemic under control. The next few months may continue to be difficult, but beyond that we are increasingly optimistic. Investments made over the last few years will help margins and our new product development pipeline is strong for the near term. Prospects for the medium term are good and Porvair should return to its historical levels of growth once the pandemic retreats."
