SMALL-CAP - WINNERS

Macfarlane Group PLC, up 10% at 131.72 pence, 12-month range 79.00p-139.05p. The packaging company says full-year 2021 results will be ahead of its previous expectations. For six months to June 30, revenue rises 27% to GBP133.5 million from GBP105.5 million last year, and pretax profit doubles to GBP7.8 million from GBP3.5 million. The company lifts its interim dividend by 24% to 0.87p from 0.70p. "The group has previously demonstrated effective management of these challenges and, as a result of this and the performance in first half, the board expects the group will exceed its previous expectations for the full year," it says.

Glenveagh Properties PLC, up 6.4% at EUR1.07, 12-month range EUR0.67-EUR1.07. Shares in the Irish housebuilder hit a fresh 12-month high after it returns to profit in the first half of the year. For the six months to June 30, company swings to a pretax profit of EUR4.3 million from EUR27.3 million loss, as revenue rises to EUR127.5 million from EUR37.0 million.

SMALL-CAP - LOSERS

Hunting PLC, down 4.0% at 198.80p, 12-month range 120.10p-297.00p. The energy services provider says it anticipates earnings to be USD10 million lower in 2021 than in the previous year. Hunting expects earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation loss of USD3.6 million for the six months ended June 30, widened from USD2.3 million in the second half of 2020 and swung dramatically from a USD28.4 million profit in the first half of last year.

Goodwin PLC, down 3.0% at 3,100.00p, 12-month range 2,720.00p-3,650.00p. The engineering company says it is co-operating with police investigation into death of employee at Hanley site on Wednesday. "We are giving our full co-operation and support to the investigation currently being carried out by the police and the Health & Safety Executive, but will be unable to comment further until that process has been completed," it says.
