SMALL-CAP WINNERS & LOSERS: Chesnara up on Sanlam deal; Fuller's down

13th Sep 2021 11:01

(Alliance News) - The following stocks are the leading risers and fallers among London Main Market small-caps on Monday.

----------

SMALL-CAP - WINNERS

----------

Henderson High Income Trust PLC, up 5.1% at 183.00 pence, 12-month range 121.00p-189.50p. The trust, which invests in "both well-known and smaller companies" rises amid solid gains by some investee shares. Consumer goods firm Unilever PLC and information and analytics firm RELX both are up 0.6% and electricity network operator National Grid PLC is up 2.2% in a strong start for London's FTSE 100 index. As of July 31, Henderson High Income's Unilever holding represented 3.5% of its portfolio, RELX 2.7% and National Grid 2.1%.

----------

Chesnara PLC, up 1.5% at 306.00 pence, 12-month range 255.00p-322.50p. The pensions and insurance firm will buy Sanlam Ltd's UK-based life and pensions business for GBP39.0 million. Sanlam is a Cape Town-based financial services group listed in Johannesburg. The deal to buy Sanlam Life & Pensions UK Ltd is expected to be concluded in the first quarter next year. Sanlam Life & Pensions UK has GBP2.90 billion in assets under administration.

----------

Baillie Gifford Shin Nippon PLC, up 1.8% at 268.14 pence, 12-month range 204.00p-274.50p. The Japan focused investor tracks the Nikkei 225 higher. The Tokyo index edged up 0.2% on Monday and has risen in 10 of the last 11 trading days, adding 9.8% during this bull run. The Nikkei index has surged in the wake of Japan Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga late in August announcing he will not run for his ruling party's leadership, effectively ending his tenure and throwing wide open the race for the next premier.

----------

SMALL-CAP - LOSERS

----------

Fuller, Smith & Turner PLC, down 7.3% at 712.00p, 12-month range 530.00p-977.73p. The pub operator, which rose 5.8% last week, was lower early Monday despite the UK abandoning plans to launch vaccine passports.
