Sky Launches New Sports Channel Free For Television Customers

18th Mar 2016 12:00

LONDON (Alliance News) - Sky PLC Friday said it is a launching a new sports channel, dubbed 'Sky Sports Mix', which will be available for free to its television customers.

The channel will air a mix of live sport, including football, golf, cricket and others. Particularly notable it will have a "select number of" Premier League and Football League matches.

"With Sky Sports Mix, we are giving millions more people access to great moments from some of the world's biggest sporting events at no extra cost. It is a fantastic way for all Sky customers to be able to enjoy some of the great content that has made Sky Sports the first choice for sport," said Sky Sports Managing Director Barney Francis in a statement.

Paid sports broadcasting has become an increasingly competitive space following the launch of BT Group PLC's BT Sport service in late 2013, challenging Sky's traditionally dominant position.

Shares in Sky were down 0.1% at 1,012.50 pence Friday morning.
