LONDON (Alliance News) - Sky PLC said Monday it has signed a multi-year pan-European movies agreement with Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc, covering its subscription and transaction movie services across the UK and Europe.
The agreement includes all new and future Sony releases, Sky said, meaning that Sky customers will be able to watch "all the latest Sony blockbusters over a year ahead of any other subscription service and only a few months after they have been released in cinemas."
Sky has previously negotiated deals with Sony Pictures on a territory-by-territory basis, and this is the first deal Sky has negotiated with a Hollywood studio covering multiple territories. Sky noted, however, that it will "continue to deliver films in a way that preserves the local characteristics of each market and best meets the needs of Sky customers in each individual country."
"Sony has a fantastic track record of producing big global hits with a really exciting slate of films coming up including Ghostbusters and Inferno. Along with our investments in entertainment, sport and the arts, major agreements like this help meet our commitment to provide our customers with exclusive, world-class films and programmes and the very best TV experience," said Sky's Managing Director of Content Gary Davey in a statement.
Shares in Sky were up 0.1% at 1,000.00 pence Monday morning.
