LONDON (Alliance News) - SkinBioTherapeutics PLC said Tuesday it will team up with the University of Manchester to to research how aging affects the skin.
The university was granted about GBP600,000 from the Biological Sciences Research Council to investigate the effects of aging on the skin's microbiome.
The life science company focused on skin health will team up with the university for up to three years to research prebiotic effect for the skin, similar to that already known in the gut.
Chief Executive Officer Catherine O'Neill said: "Unlike the gut, virtually nothing is known about possible prebiotics for skin. This study will provide the foundations for developing novel prebiotic treatments for aged skin. This work is very complementary to the work that we have already underway at SkinBioTherapeutics in skin care, anti-infection and repair."
"SkinBioTherapeutics is supporting the programme as the industrial partner to further work in this exciting new area of the skin microbiome," the company said.
SkinBioTherapeutics shares were trading down 7.4% at 15.75 pence.
