LONDON (Alliance News) - Sirius Minerals PLC Wednesday said it has entered into a research agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture Food Security and Cooperatives in Tanzania.
The diversified potash development company said the memorandum of understanding deal is to research polyhalite in order to support its introduction as a fertiliser into Tanzania.
Sirius Minerals said that Tanzania, which traditionally has used a small amount of fertilisers due to costs, has aspirations to improve its existing agricultural practices and is looking at its options for better fertilisation practices.
The company said that under the deal polyhalite will be utilised as a direct application fertiliser or blended with other fertilisers to produce balanced fertilisers for research programmes and crop trials.
Sirius said that its decision aligns it with the UK government's High Level Prosperity partnerships in Africa, which aims to strengthen the UK's economic cooperation with Angola, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Mozambique and Tanzania based on shared priorities.
Sirius Minerals shares were trading flat on Wednesday at 11.75 pence.
