Sierra Rutile Hires Norilsk Nickel's Australia Boss As Operating Chief

11th May 2015 08:17

LONDON (Alliance News) - Mineral sands producer Sierra Rutile Ltd Monday said it has chosen the chief executive of Norilsk Nickel Group's Australian operations as its new chief operating officer.

Wayne Venter will join Sierra Rutile from the Russian nickel and palladium producer on August 1, when he will become responsible for overseeing operations, strategic business planning, and executing growth projects. Before becoming head of Norilsk Nickel's Australian operations, Venter held senior management positions at the company's operations in Africa.

Chief Executive John Sisay said Venter's experience in leading mature mining operations in Africa and internationally will be important as Sierra Rutile constructs the Gangama dry mine project in Sierra Leone.

We are delighted to welcome Wayne to the COO role. The breadth of his experience in leading mature mining operations in Africa and internationally, plus his experience in delivering projects will be key as Sierra Rutile commences the construction of the Gangama Project. We look forward to Wayne's contributions with driving further optimisations and efficiencies to realise the full potential of Sierra Rutile's world-class asset," said in a statement.

Sierra Rutile shares were up 2.0% at 20.90 pence in London on Monday.
