LONDON (Alliance News) - Shire PLC said Wednesday that Natpara for injection is now available in the US, after it was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the control of hypocalcemia in patients with hypoparathyroidism in January.
Shire said that "because of the potential risk of osteosarcoma, Natpara is recommended only for patients who cannot be well-controlled on calcium supplements and active forms of vitamin D alone."
Shire acquired Natpara with NPS Pharmaceuticals Inc, which it bought for USD5.2 billion in January.
Shares in Shire are trading down 0.8% at 5,320.00 pence Wednesday afternoon.
