LONDON (Alliance News) - Shire PLC Monday said that, conditional upon the completion of its acquisition of Baxalta Inc, it is appointed Baxalta board members Gail Fosler and Albert Stroucken as Shire non-executive directors, as Baxalta Chairman Wayne Hockmeyer has withdrawn himself from consideration for appointment to the Shire board.
Hockmeyer had previously indicated he would be willing to serve as deputy chairman of Shire, but has now elected not to serve of the board due to "personal and family reasons".
Shire agreed to buy Chicago-based Baxalta for USD32.0 billion in January, and said earlier this month reiterated its expectations to complete the deal by mid-2016.
Shire shareholders will vote on the acquisition of Baxalta at a general meeting May 27.
Shares in Shire were up 0.1% at 4,249.00 pence Monday afternoon.
