(Alliance News) - Serco Group PLC on Thursday said it has been awarded three contracts totalling more than GBP1 billion to provide maritime services to the Royal Navy.
Hampshire, England-based Serco is a government services outsourcing provider, focused on defence, justice & immigration, transport, health & other facilities management and citizen services.
It said the contracts, which replace existing services and expand into new capabilities, will start later this year.
One contract is valued at GBP850 million over ten years for the delivery of in-port services for His Majesty's Naval Base Devonport in Plymouth, HMNB Portsmouth and for the Clyde, including HMNB Faslane.
It said this includes the purchase of 24 new vessels for the Royal Navy over the next decade to modernise its fleet.
Serco said the services also include vessel towage, passenger transfer, and barge and tank cleaning services.
A further contract worth GBP70 million over five years is for inshore support for military training and exercises at British Underwater Test & Evaluation, an underwater military test and evaluation range off the northwest coast of Scotland.
The contract includes new work for range safety and aircrew training, Serco added.
The final contract is valued at GBP110 million over ten years to provide offshore support to military training and exercises.
Serco said this includes two "specialist ocean-going vessels" for regional and worldwide support.
"We are proud to have been awarded these three contracts and to have the privilege of continuing to provide critical operational services to the Royal Navy. These awards further strengthen our position in the defence market, where we provide deep expertise around the world," said Chief Executive Anthony Kirby.
"We have been performing these duties to an extremely high standard for the last 28 years and we now have the opportunity to modernise the fleet of support vessels to ensure that the Navy has the support it requires, day in, day out, to enable it to keep our waters safe."
Shares in Serco were up 5.2% to 184.10 pence in London on Thursday morning.
